Thematic list: non-linear HP fics
THIS LIST IS NO LONGER UPDATED! THE NEW VERSION IS AT MY SITE, HERE. Please update your bookmarks!

So, non-linear HP fics. [info]nopejr piqued my interest, and I thought that a long list might do us all good. I've never thought there would be list with so many fics I liked. Well, this is it

What's accepted:

- as it must be clear from the name, the fics where the narrative is not linear are welcome. Those can include:
- dual / concurrent narratives, i.e. different POVs of the same events. But please no fics where the scenes from different POV just sometimes partly cover each other, like in Cybele's If You Are Prepared.
- past and present side by side, only if it's a repetitive device (happens through the whole fic);
- "variations on a theme" fics where we have several versions of the same events, represented as equal;
- "five things that never happened to..." kind of fics, only if the versions they show us aren't included into the simple, linear narrative. If you like stories of the "five things" type, check this list compiled by [info]secondsilk. Some of them are linear, and so aren't included in this list of mine.
- the fics that have several variations of the ending;
- fics with unmarked alternation of realities, like Oscillate Wildly or Striking Thirteen. I mean, not simply the fics that work with parallel realities, but the fics where the switching of them goes without any "marker of switching" (we don't know we are transfered into a different place/ timeline until we figure it out from the events) and only if as a result the realities are represented as equal (if we left puzzled as for which one is real.)
Please, remember that when those fics don't have clear markings of separate events or POVs, they are often called to confuse readers and so make them pay attention to detail and to think.

King Draco's code:

- mind that linear narrative and straight timeline are not the same thing! When we are told that "Harry turned his Time-Turner 4 times and appeared in 1976", it's still linear narrative. So, think twice before suggesting a fic with alternate universes. Most of them, as far as I checked, don't qualify.
- non-linear and discontinuous are not the same thing either. If we have a fic where there are scenes from 1978, 1981, 1985 etc, it's not continuous but linear;
- flashback-based fics qualify only if the whole structure is built on this device, as in Shadow's Side Story, and only if it's not marked as recollections.
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics you haven't read;
- do not bring fics you didn't like;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I'd appreciate the following info: author, title, pairing, rating, WIP status; how the fic fits here. But if you are certain about some fic but don't remember whose it was or where to find it, just tell me, I'll try and find it on my own.

Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by TITLE (articles excluded, i.e. The Impossible (Fear) is placed under 'I')

Special marks:

# - liked
## - loved
NR - have not read
new - added in the last month or so

These are NOT my recs; it's just a themed listing.
